Miami Physiologic Dentistry
Lasting relief starts with a balanced bite
A deeper
kind of dentistry
At Real Smile Dentistry, we practice physiologic dentistry because your bite is never just your teeth. As a Miami neuromuscular dentist, our focus is the system behind your smile: the jaw joints, the muscles that move them, and the airway they share.
We look beyond cavities and cleanings to ask a different set of questions. Where is your jaw actually resting? Which muscles are working overtime to hold it there? This page is where that evaluation starts, and where we point you once we know what your bite is doing.
If you’re dealing with headaches, jaw pain, tooth wear, or a bite that has never felt quite right, physiologic dentistry may offer the long-term relief and clarity you’ve been missing.
How we measure
what your bite is doing
Our neuromuscular approach starts with data, not assumptions. Before we recommend anything, we measure how your jaw moves, where your muscles are working hardest, and how your teeth actually meet.
- EMG muscle scans – We record how hard your jaw and neck muscles are working, at rest and in motion.
- Jaw tracking – We map your jaw’s movement in real time to see its range, rhythm, and any deviation.
- T-Scan bite analysis – Digital sensors show which teeth make contact first and how much force each one absorbs.
- CBCT imaging – 3D scans reveal the joints, airway, and bone structure that impressions and photos cannot.
Where your
evaluation leads
A physiologic evaluation is a starting point, not a treatment. What we measure determines where you go next.
TMJ and jaw pain
When the joints and the muscles around them are the source of your headaches, facial pain, or clicking.
Airway and breathing
Sleep apnea
When breathing stops during sleep and a custom oral appliance can hold the airway open.
Myofunctional therapy
When the tongue and facial muscles need retraining so the results actually hold.
FAQs
What is physiologic dentistry?
How is this different from general dentistry?
General dentistry often treats symptoms. Physiologic dentistry looks deeper, evaluating bite forces, jaw position, muscle function, and airway health to resolve the underlying causes of pain or dysfunction.
Is this approach right for me?
Will it change the way I look or speak?
By restoring natural function, many patients experience improved facial harmony, clearer speech, and better breathing. Any changes are guided by what supports your health, not cosmetic trends.
How is this different from functional medicine in dentistry?
Physiologic dentistry works on the mechanics: your bite, jaw joints, muscles, and airway. Functional medicine in dentistry looks outward from the mouth to your systemic health, including oral bacteria, inflammation, and the markers we can measure in your saliva. Many patients benefit from both.
What to Expect
We take a thoughtful, thorough approach to your care:
- In-depth diagnostics – We use 3D imaging, jaw tracking, EMG scans, and digital bite analysis to establish your neuromuscular baseline.
- Collaborative consultation – You’ll sit down with our team to review results and co-create a personalized treatment plan.
- A clear direction – Your results point to a specific path, whether that is TMJ care, airway treatment, or muscle retraining.
- Support that evolves with you – We check in regularly and refine your care as your body adapts and heals.
Why choose our
physiologic approach?
Advanced Diagnostic Technology
We use EMG muscle testing, T-Scan occlusion analysis, and CBCT imaging to plan with accuracy and intention.
